Why does my vectorized result come out wrong? 6 common problems, solved
Practical fixes for the vectorizing issues people run into most: blurry edges, missing detail, wrong colors, and bloated file size.
When a vectorized result isn't what you expected, the cause is usually the source image, or one setting away from right, not the tool itself. Here are the six problems we see most, with quick fixes.
1) Edges are blurry or pixelated
If the source image is low-resolution or heavily JPEG-compressed, tracing carries those flaws straight into the vector. Use the original, uncompressed PNG if you can, and bump the speckle filter up one notch.
2) Fine details disappear
A high speckle (detail) filter can mistake small shapes for noise and drop them. For thin lines or small icons, lower the filter gradually until you find the sweet spot.
3) Colors don't match the original
A low color-count setting merges nearby tones together. Raising the color count to 20-32 gets photographic images much closer to the original.
4) The SVG file is too large
Too many paths/nodes bloats file size. Raising the simplification level and lowering the color count shrinks the file without giving up much visual quality.
5) A flat-color logo comes out blurry
For logos and illustrations the goal is sharp edges — keeping the color count low and the speckle filter high (the opposite of photos) gives the cleanest result.
6) Some files fail during batch processing
An unsupported color profile (e.g. CMYK JPG) or a corrupted file gets weeded out individually during a batch run. Upload the failed file on its own and check the error message to spot the cause fast.
If nothing helps, try a different preset (Logo/Illustration ↔ Photo) — the wrong preset is often the root cause.
