How to create a favicon

Generate favicon.ico, an Apple touch icon, Android/PWA icons, and a site.webmanifest from your logo in one go.

A favicon is the small icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks, and next to your site in Google search results. A missing or default favicon makes a site look unfinished, and Google shows a blank icon instead of your logo.

Steps

1) Upload your logo at /app/favicon (square, at least 512×512 pixels recommended; SVG works too). 2) Set the background color and padding. 3) Check the different sizes in the preview. 4) Download the ZIP.

What's in the ZIP?

A favicon.ico containing 16, 32, and 48 pixel sizes; a 180 pixel Apple touch icon; 192 and 512 pixel icons for Android and PWAs; a site.webmanifest that lists them; and the HTML lines to paste into your site's <head>.

Adding it to your site

Upload the files to your site's root folder and add the HTML lines from the ZIP to the <head>. On WordPress you can also upload it under 'Appearance > Customize > Site Identity'. Google can take a few days to pick up a new favicon; you can request a recrawl of your home page in Search Console.
