Practical fixes for hair and fur edges in background removal

Automatic background removal produces near-perfect results on high-contrast product photos, but edge detection gets harder with hair, fur, or semi-transparent objects like glass.

Why does it struggle?

The segmentation model separates foreground from background by color and contrast. Thousands of thin, disconnected strands of hair, or a translucent surface, blur that distinction.

What you can do while shooting

Shooting the subject against a flat, single-color background that clearly differs from the subject (e.g. a dark-haired model on white) meaningfully improves the success rate of automatic removal.

What you can do after the fact

Since Pixovec's output downloads as a transparent PNG, if there's a small edge issue you can quickly brush-fix it in any design tool — far faster than cutting out the whole image by hand.

In short: automatic removal is enough on its own most of the time; in the hard cases it still gets you 90% of the way, and the rest is a few seconds of touch-up.
